The Sweet Surrendering

The plans I had, assurances made,

have run away-

like beaches washed by tide.

So lift my eyes beyond what I see,

to firm-held ground

and the sweet surrendering.

I created this piece during a time when I was quietly questioning my own contentment. A conversation with a friend had stirred something in me- it made me wonder: Am I satisfied in Jesus? I found myself reflecting on my path, the roles and responsibilities God has given me, and the tension between desire and obedience.

In this season, I began to feel God softening something in me- working gently to loosen my grip on the plans I’d made for myself. This piece holds that shift. I allowed it to feel open, like something in progress- because that’s what I am.

The colors and flowing forms reflect the coastlines I walk often, the way the tide pulls back and offers something quieter, steadier in return. The Sweet Surrendering is about letting go of control and following where God leads, even when the road is uncertain.

This is the fourth piece in What Holds, a series about release, presence, and the quiet strength in spiritual surrender.
