Held
Sky of thread and hill of green,
a rush of ocean blue-
all the land I’ve walked compressed
into a palm-sized truth,
Here it’s held in woven form-
my heart: my home, my muse.
This piece is about the kind of support that doesn’t try to fix you- it just stays. I wove it while thinking about a moment with my first discipleship group, when I cried openly and was simply held. No advice. No rush. Just presence. It was the first time I’d felt truly seen and supported like that, and it changed me.
The soft yellow tones, earth layers, and scattered flecks of color reflect the feeling of warmth and grounding I carried from that moment. The gentle palette and compact structure give the sense of being gathered in, steadied, kept. The act of weaving itself became a kind of remembering- of what it felt like to be safely witnessed.
Held is the ninth tapestry in What Holds, a series that honors sacred connected, emotional refuge, and the beauty of letting others meet you in your mess.
