Patch of Earth
My fingers are working hard, weaving, with soft threads forming edges-
forest lines that stretch through blue and bright summer sky.
My children are laying down, laughing, one small sprout sitting upright-
her eyes wide as if the world just opened up its palms.
Love is this grounded and growing joy.
Love is this patch of earth we keep returning to.
I made this piece after a day spent with friends- the kind of day where the house fills with kids, snacks, laughter, and the good kind of mess. My home has become a landing place for beauty and life, not because it’s perfect, but because it’s open.
The vibrant palette-lush greens, sky blues, warm soil tones- captures the spirit of that day. There’s movement and texture, but also a sense of calm. Like a patch of earth that’s been walked on, sat on, and loved.
As I wove, I thought about the sacredness of the ordinary. The way friendships grow slowly. The way our children run wearing only one sock and unbothered. The way my house, with all its wear, holds so much joy. It’s about a willingness to share space even in the chaos of daily life.
Patch of Earth is the seventh piece in What Holds, a series about grounded love, relational presence, and the beauty of choosing to stay rooted.
